I am going to respond to the inquiry question, "How can we get kids
involved in the art of their community that has a tie to the environment?" I
think that we need to obviously get the kids excited about art and the
environment. I think that the way to do this is to let the students have
hands on experiences. For example, here in Tucson we have tons of art shows,
galleries and things of that nature in which the students could come and
experience. We also have the wonderful resource of the desert here and I
think that this would be a valuable tool for the students to experience. For
example, I would love to take my future class to the Tucson Desert Museum and
have them do some sort of art project there. For example, draw or paint what
they see. Perhaps we could make an arrangement with the museum to display
some of the students artwork. I think that students need personal experiences
with art and the environment in order to spark an interest in those areas.
