Students and teachers will be able to participate in this program by US
Postal Service to select significant people, events and trends from the
past in a series of commemorative stamps. The public will be invited to
vote on stamps representing five area - people & events, arts and
entertainment, lifestyles, sports, and science & technology.

A packet of materials of resource information of each decade beginning with
the 1950 is available to teachers for students in grade 3-6. Write to
"Celebrate the Century", U. S. Postal Service, P. O. Box 44342, Washington,
D.C. 20078-0026

Student will also have an opportunity to ilustrate their vision of the
future by participating in an International Stamp design contest. The
contest runs from September 9 through October 31, 1998. Two finalists will
be selected from each state and four final designs will be chosen to be
issued in 2000.
