Following is my response to the inquiry question, "How can technology be
used to conduct inquiry about art and ecology?" posted in Conversations
about Teaching Contemporary Ecological Art on the ArtsEdNet web site.

First of all, technology is a growing industry in our society and each
day it continues to grow by making advancements and improvments. Thus,
we need to be aware and take advantage of the technological advancements
for our teaching. For example, let's look at computers. When I was in
elementary school, computers were basically nonexistent. Today, many
classrooms are equipped with computers or schools have computer labs.
Also, the Internet is a major resource for doing all kinds of research
including investigations regarding art and ecology. There are numerous
resources for teachers on the Internet that pertain to art and ecology
as well as various lesson plans that be utilized or adapted to fit a
teacher's needs. Likewise, with the use of e-mail, students can
communicate with others in different locations around the world to
discuss and learn about various ecological and/or art issues of a
particular region. This can be a valuable resource to initiate research
on a particular unit. Aside from the Internet, there are many computer
software and CD ROM programs that are available. Another technological
advancement that teachers can utilize in their classrooms to conduct
inquiry about art and ecology are numerous videotapes that are
available, i.e, I believe it is called the "Rulling Wall" by Christos.
