FOR RELEASE

Advocacy: Illinois Association Publishes Excellence and Equity

The Illinois Art Education Association has developed a position
paper for the elementary, middle level, and secondary schools in the state
of Illinois. The 80-page booklet highlights the content and contexts of
educational information as an opportunity to clarify the role of art
education in the lives of young people. Excellence and Equity provides
detailed descriptions of conceptual frameworks, curriculum scenarios,
program designs, course plans, and forms of assessment. It also includes
discussions of equity, minority and gender concerns, and implementation
procedures.

According to Hector Munoz, IAEA president, the position statement has been
circulated to the Illinois members, various administrators and
decisionmakers, as well as presidents of arts organizations throughout the
state.

Copies will be available at the Illinois Art Education Association
hospitality table at the NAEA national convention in Chicago. Copies are
available from Dr. Hector Munoz, Coordinator, Office of Teacher
Certification, College of Visual & Performing Arts, Northern Illinois
University, Music Building 128, DeKalb, IL 60115-2854 for $10.00 plus
$2.50 shipping and handling.
