I just wanted to let everyone on this list know that I am thankful
for this great opportunity to share ideas and debate isssues
concerning art education!
It has provided me with some new lessons, lots of stuff to think
about, and look more carefully at what I teach and why.
So often we as art specialists feel isolated, it is great to have a
community of support.
The Fifth Grade teachers in my school really shocked me. They asked
me to give them an inservice on tesselations and symmetry. The new AZ
standards require it, and some were really in the dark. It gave me an
opportunity to show how some of my lessons integrate many subject
areas at once, and I got an understanding of what the students need to
know for this test, so I can develop activities that re-enforce the
concepts that are taught in the classrooms. A big thanks to Betty Lake
and her web page for resources! I used an activity on ClarisWorks
Tesselations straight from the net. Another teacher caught on quickly
and volunteered to teach the lesson to groups of students with me.
Over all I felt we had a real professional growth day.
Your turn to share what you are thankful for :-)
Happy Thanksgiving!
