This brings to mind one of my forays to the art museum with a group of fourth
graders. Although I had covered the subject of "nudes in art vs.
pornography" in class, there were a group of boys who were quite surprised to
turn around the corner in the art museum to find themselves right in front of
nude statuary.
Apparently these bronze and marble pieces did make an impression on
them, for the next time that they had art class, they came into my artroom
and each struck a frozen pose. They asked if I knew what they were
doing....they were duplicating the poses of the female statuary that they
saw. It was a good giggle, and I relaxed, knowing that they had,
unwittingly, learned something about how artists portray the posture and
gesture of the human body.
