This is an aesthetic puzzle aimed at second graders to get them thinking
aesthetically about "Toy Helicopter" by unknown artist found in the
gallery section of the art and ecology website.

Once there was a man who found pleasure in the beauty of the sea. Often
he would walk along the beach enjoying the sea breeze and thinking about
how beautiful the ocean is; however, along with this beauty he was
saddened by the amounts of garbage he would find on the beach.

What was to be done? The man thought and thought about this problem. He
decided that he should do something about it and began to pick up the
trash. As he collected the garbage he realized that just cleaning the
beach was not enough. He decided that instead of throwing away the
garbage he would use it in a creative way. He became famous as a
toymaker, using 100% of the garbage he collected from the beach.

His fame spread far and wide and now his toys are on display in art
museums.

1. Does this man make art or toys? Why do you feel this way?
2. Do you think people should use garbage to make art?
3. What kind of message do you think he is trying to give?
4. If you went home and glued a bunch of garbage together would you be an
artist? Why or why not?

Suggestions/comments are welcome. Thanks, Larisa V, Lisa B, Lindsie M.;)
