Haydee and all--excuse me if I'm wrong, but I think Maya Lin was either an
architecture or Landscape architecture student at the time she submitted a
design for the Vietnam Memorial. It is very interesting how environmental
art and landscape architecture are entwined at this point. John Beardsley
of EARTHWORKS AND BEYOND has a good article on this in SCULPTURE Magazine
April 1996. The status of defining an "artist" often creates problems for
