Anyone involved in the arts is an artist. It does not automatically mean
though that the work or performance is of a high aesthetivc value.
If you play sport are you a Sportsman/woman? You are when you are
participating. I suppose we are reluctant to label some one an artist
unless they derive their livelyhood from their art. I might win a
competition for, say a mural design, my profession would still
be "Teacher" but I would be the "artist" responsible for the design.
