Subject: old linoleum

Does anyone have a suggestion on how to soften old linoleum? I sure hate
to waste my stash of old linoleum, but it's fairly brittle and I know how
difficult it can be for students to cut.

If it is too brittle and/or hard it's not only hard to cut, it's more
dangerous.
Can you use the surface for creating images to monoprint from? Or use it
as the base for glued on shapes of another material to make prints from--oh
dear, what's the word?--Collagraphs?
