Judy, I am an art educator at an elementary of 700 in Princeton, MN.
Our Art Club is just the 5th graders of the school, but I want to share with you how it has worked... We have a huge Art and Technology fair in the Spring. The Art Club's role is to help with the planning of the art
fair: from deciding a theme, to giving demonstrations, and giving tours. The 5th graders take these responsibilities seriously, and individuals that you would have never imagined to be leaders play leadership roles! I'd
like the Art Club's responsibilities to grow, but it has worked beautifully
to start with one specific goal, the art fair, at first. I suggest being very specific about your goals, and emphasize that ALL students need to
be given opportunities to play leadership roles in activities - activities
other than sports, speech, etc. Could interested students be a part of
your presentation? Good Luck with your presentation!!
