Your method of involving the class in rule-making is great. However, some of us have classes where this may not be possible. For example, my class population changes often. I have developed 4 rules (stated positively) which seem to cover almost everything: Remain seated unless given permission to do otherwise, always maintaining personal space; Raise your hand and wait for the teacher to call on you before talking; Follow directions both verbal and written; Use appropriate language for school (Including speaking positively of self and others).
