My district budgets $1.50 per kid for the whole year, which I thought was bad
until I heard your story! I too spend a lot of my own money. You should
contact companies in your area that could donate supplies - like a printing
company for paper, Walmart or other Art supply stores that have extra
damaged merchandise that they discard. Explain your problem. Also ask kid's
parents if they have connections of places that can make donations.
Can you have each kid bring in an Art Fee? (We can't beacuse too many of our
kids are low income and don't have to pay fees, so the district has to then
pay for them.) Someone on this group once talked about how each kid payed a
$25 fee and with that the art teacher bought a personal 'art box' for each
student with their own personal items - you get a bulk discount price and can
make sure the kids have the right supplies, and the kids take better care of
them because they are theirs.
Good luck!
