The unit I did last year on Egyptian art was wonderfully inclusive of the
varieties of art found in ancient Egyptian tombs. I divided the types of art
found in a typical kings chamber, and had the students work in groups on a
certain art type. When finished the groups placed their art objects in a
designated area to create their own tomb of an unknown pharoah. You have to
have the space to place things, however. When it came to be time for our
annual art show the students devoted time after school to put together the
tomb installation in our gallery. It was an incredible show stopper! In
groups students made, a mummy, animal figurines, a crook and flail, painted a
tomb wall, a death mask, jewlery, and they also built a sarcophagus. Hope
this sparks some ideas............................................Dawn,
