Time for me to jump in with this thought:
If we can show our students, at whatever level, that there is more
than one reason to make art, then perhaps we can get our students to
THINK about making art while they are making it. AND perhaps they can
verbalize that to their friends and relatives, when they all go to an
art museum and see a Degas, and say "why did he paint the ballerinas
green?" (or not)<-which is what I always add as a p.s. to any of my
statements in class.
