There are several cultures that use insects for their primary subject matter.
Egyptian- check my home page on that subject - scarabs(beetles)
Indians- wasps, bees, mosquitos painted pottery
Pre-Columbian cultures- ornamentation
Stained glass dragonflies and other media from the Art Nouveau
John Biggers- Starry Crown- Anansi the Spider- connection- elementary
Several contemporary artists sculptures from found objects

Hope this helps
