Hi, Christy...You asked about high school level. I faintly remember doing
encaustic with my early career high school classes. Don't remember exactly
how we did it but the jest of it was using large, old wooden blocks and
coloring heavy crayon on the wood in some design fashion. When it was built
up very heavily, we lightly ran a small blowtorch over the design and
melted the wax. Nothing went up in flames that I recall. You might want to
try it on your own first, however, if it sounds exciting to you.
