What a coincidence - Peter Blume's The Rock was selected as a focus piece
for the US high school Academic Decathlon this year and I just finished
reviewing my students for the competition this morning. He can be found in
an art history text on American Art. He came from Russia as a teenager and
practiced art during the depression. He is classified under the general
category of Social Realism and under the sub-category of Social Surrealism
(use of personal dream imagery and reference to social problems and/or
events) or Magic Realism. I have some copied material which I gave my
students for review. If you would like a copy of what I have, e-mail me
your postal address and I would be happy to send it to you. You have two
great works of art to compare - have fun!
Sincerely,
