DREYFUSS TO GETS AWARD, MEDIA ATTENTION FOLLOWS

INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA - Actor Richard Dreyfuss was presented with the
prestigious "Music for Life" Award from the National Association of
Music Merchants (NAMM), Saturday evening, November 9 at the Bands of
America Grand National Marching Band Championships in the RCA Dome,
Indianapolis. The Award was presented by NAMM Chairman, Warner Paige.

During his visit to Indianapolis, Mr. Dreyfuss spoke out about the need
for communities to look at their priorities to ensure children have
access to music and arts education. His comments were timely since the
Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) recently announced plans to eliminate
music and arts education. Dreyfuss was interviewed live for the NBC
affiliate taking the IPS to task for their recent decision.

Dreyfuss, nominated for an Academy Award for his role as band director
Glenn Holland in "Mr. Hollandís Opus," is being recognized by NAMM for
the positive impact his portrayal of Mr. Holland had on the nationís
understanding of the importance of music education. "The music community
owes a tremendous debt of gratitude to Richard Dreyfuss," said Larry R.
Linkin, NAMM President/CEO. "Through his role as Mr. Holland and his
outspoken support of music and the arts, he has become a major force in
the fight to help strengthen music education in our nationís schools.
All of us at the National Association of Music Merchants applaud his
efforts and extend our heart-felt gratitude for his leadership." The
award was presented as part of the Grand National Finale and Awards
Ceremony, at the conclusion of the national championship finals
competition.

Entertainment Tonight will cover Mr. Dreyfuss' remarks on Monday,
November 11, 1996.His full remarks will be posted shortly.

BURGER KING AD DRAWS MUSIC EDUCATORS IRE

A recent television advertisement for "Burger King" portrays a type of
music education in a very negative light. A recent posting noted

"In the commercial, a school-age boy is depicted in a private cello
lesson looking bored and making horrible sounds. He is "rescued" from
this drudgery by the Burger King Kids Club Kid, who transports him to
Burger King, where we see how much fun their Kids Club meals are." The
post goes on to state the ad insinuates instrumental music is boring and
uncool.

Music educators have been very critical of the advertisement and have
requested support contacting Burger King to drop the ad.

Concerned advocates may contact Burger King asking to remove this
commercial. A "comment form" link on their Web page at:
