[teacherartexchange] clay ideas for ornaments and other small objects

Hi,
Here are some ideas.
If it's little kids, give them a styrofoam plate and have them pat
clay into a pancake as thick as their finger.
1.Use cookie cutters to make an impression of the shape-but do NOT
bear down hard or the clay will get stuck in the cutter-then have kids
cut out on the line the cookie cutter made with pencils or wood
barbecue skewers (very cheap in supermarket). Let the clay dry on the
plate. Dry and fire. Make sure the clay is VERY dry-I always wait at
least one week.

2. Make snowmen-attach clay balls and work togetehr well if clay is
sticky. Score and wedge if it's not-then add face with barbecue
skewers or old pencils or golf pencils-anything that will make an
impression.

3.Roll clay into fat coil and make candy canes.

All the above techniques are good for other projects as well.
