Ahhh weaving is tough to get but once they do, most love it. I have a colleague who has them write the letter a on every other strip (at the bottom of the warp strips) and the letter b on the others. This is with a paper loom made from an 9 x 12 sheet of construction paper where they cut up vertically to make their loom. Then they weave together-- pick up all the strips and run the strip through them- now lets pick up all the b strips and run the strip through. She says they get it better that way. It I have small enough classes I usually move around and help them and rely on class helpers. When one gets it I pronounce them a master weaver and let them help others. I also start with kdg and let them weave long web pieces (bought it at Walmart- used to fix lawn chairs? melted the edges so they wouldn't ravel and give them about 3 foot strips) They weave them through the chainlink fence around their playground. That seems to give them the in out idea.
