State develops performance-based arts assessments

"The state is rolling out what are thought to be the first
performance-based arts assessments for K-12 students in the nation --
60 of them, to be exact.

"Developed by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction,
the assessments include 15 each in visual arts, music, dance and
theater. They provide teachers with detailed instructions on how to
gauge whether students are meeting state-set standards."
