I also add that the piece of clay is someone's head that you have been dying to pounce on. OK, so that doesn't sound so good, but you know, with high schoolers, it works like a charm. (In fact the most 'angry kids' are the best potters when it comes to "controlled strength"--so are drummers and wrestlers...all who have to control their strength, but use it). I also have them inhale while centering, and exhale while taking their hands off the clay s-l-o-w-l-y.
