Managing WC mixing, and what's the deal with white in the Prang box?

I like Prang too. I have my kids mix in little round white
plastic pallette mixing wells...the kind that have one larger circular
well in the center surrounded by a lot of little wells. I have them put
a small cup of clean water in the center well and use it to pour small
amounts of clean water into the little wells to mix. The boxes stay
much cleaner for us that way and for some reason, my kids LOVE cleaning
out and stacking those little pallettes. One thing I can't understand
about Prang, though, is why they put the WHITE in their watercolor box.
I have our kids throw the white away. I mean, every watercolor class I
ever took taught me to lighten color with WATER in watercolor. If you
mix the colors with white they become cloudy, rather opaque, as opposed
to the sheer brilliance of prang's other watercolor colors. If you draw
a pen and ink and watercolor over it with colors mixed with their white,
the black lines become chalky looking. Nope. Not gonna get it. We
throw them away. You would think that they would know that and give us
some other fabulous color in that spot in the box. Hmmm...anyone else
want to petition Prang about this issue, or is it just me????
