between artists and world events and other factors that help us to
understand and appreciate art.
ART HISTORICAL RESEARCH involves finding sources of information that help
to support ideas and theories about art and artists.

* YOU MUST INCLUDE PHOTOCOPIES OF AT LEAST TWO OF THE WORKS MENTIONED, EVEN
IF ADDITIONAL WORKS ARE USED AS EXAMPLES IN YOUR ESSAY.
BY THE WAY, TITLES OF ARTWORK SHOULD BE PUT IN ITALICS AND QUOTATION MARKS.
EXAMPLE: “Guernica” is the title of a work by Picasso.
ANALYZE THE ARTIST’S STYLE AND HOW IT CHANGED OVER TIME. WHAT FACTORS
CAUSED THE CHANGE IN STYLE?
* Use specific examples of art work and support your analysis with factual
information from your research. * You must include photocopies of at least
two of the works, even if additional works are used as examples in your
essay.
To answer the question, first determine what the main style characteristics
are.
Refer to an early work and the later work. What visual characteristics are
very obvious in the works? Figure out what changes occurred between the
early and the later works.
What caused the change? You will probably have to do some additional
research to clarify the causes of any changes noted.
Example: Picasso’s work went through major changes throughout his career as
he continued to work toward a freer style. He went through realistic,
Impressionistic, and Cubistic styles, then moved beyond any identifiable
style to create his own.
For this essay to be successful you must clearly determine the artist’s
style characteristics and how the style changed over time. You will want to
start with an introductory paragraph that introduces the artist and
explains the dominant characteristics of the artist‘s work. The following
paragraphs will clearly explain noticeable changes in the art work and a
description of what caused these changes. The concluding paragraph should
briefly summarize the main ideas presented.
