I made papier mache chairs with my 6th graders for a number of years.
We built them from cardboard scrap and mailing tubes for the legs. Kids
brought in all sorts of mixed media things to add to them. The theme
was "When is a chair more than a chair?" TONS of fun, but they took a
LONG time. Kids are still asking if they get to do them and I stopped
doing them two years ago. They were off the charts creatively. They
wrote poetry to go with them.
