I think they did a great job on the birds this year. I just love the
way kids paint birds. Some are whimsical, some try to be as realistic
as they possibly can. There is a certain kind of kid who just loves
eagles. Another kind loves the toucans and tropicals. I had them draw
3 or 4 different birds with india ink on a brush. They chose the most
detailed one to paint with watercolor washes. Those are the ones on the
site now. Today we started to paint another one of their brush line
drawings with tempera. I don't think I've ever done a painting unit
where we have used watercolor first followed immediately by tempera.
I'm hoping that they will see the similarities and differences and even
comingle them in the last painting. Next we will make our ceramic
bird's nests with mom and dad bird and baby/babies. Just call us a
bunch of birdbrains, lol.
