Re: Stencils for Elementary Students? Appropriate or not?

Date: Sun Nov 16 2003 - 16:22:29 PST

I just did a stencil project....but...the kids made their own stencils and
the objective was to show that stencils are a kind of can
copy the same design over and over. We used chalk pastels to do underwater
scapes, then the students made fish or underwater creature stencils, then added the
creatures to their underwater scapes using cool colors. They turned out
pretty ok!!! Also the kids loved using the chalk pastels as well as learning how
to make and use stencils.

I would not use pre-made stencils or stamps...but as a form of printmaking, I
think it is ok. Also the kids loved it. Next we are doing space scapes with
a more traditional printmaking (using the scratchfoam) and a printing press.
They love that too!!!
