Re: art ed. in AZ

I know quite a lot of art teachers here in AZ. There are not as many in
the elementary systems, but they do exist. I know elementary teachers at
Foothills District in Tucson, for example. It may depend on the district. It's
hard in Tucson, I think, because so many new teachers want to stay there after
attending the U of A. I moved to Wickenburg, northwest of Phoenix to teach
at a middle school. There are usually jobs in Phoenix. Truthfully, I'm not
keeping up with the number of jobs offered each year, but the state requires
one year of art for graduation so we always have a wait list for the Art I
classes, and ours is a small rural district. We have a part-time teacher at the
upper elementary, full-time at the middle school, and one full-time and one
half-time at the high school. We also have a school board that is very
supportive of the arts. Depending on where you live, however, you would probably want
to look at salaries and benefits. Genie Holt
