sand in plaster

I am looking for a way to have my kinderkids make sandcastles. I tried the
cornstarch/sand mixture several years ago. If the mixture had a lot of water
in it, it was too wet to form (yet dried like cement!) if it was too dry, it
crumbled!

I will try the plaster/sand mixture. I thought about doing wax molds with
sand...but I don't think I will get the results I am looking for.
