Re: Repy from Brenda getting degree

Date: Tue Nov 26 2002 - 10:07:53 PST

Brenda, I would like you to know that you are not alone. I am 50 years young. I have taught art for about thirty of those years. I have a Bachelors Degree in Fine arts. I have been teaching in private schools because I am not State certified. I make entry level pay. I have been at the same school for l3 yrs now. I am thinking of getting certified which means a Masters for me. It is frustrating. I am looking into getting my student teaching waived. The school I teach at is accredited and my program gets special notice every time. Unfortunately that does not count towards raises like in the business world. I have been treated like a liscened teacher, observed pdu's etc. I am also a showing artist in the community. I love my job and I love the kids I teach. ( k-8) but it is frustrating about the money. I make abut $l2,000 less than my contempories in the school. It is going to be expensive to get the certificate. I am learning that I have to be my own advocate. If one person tells me no I go to t
he next person. So far I am working with two schools on a program that is part time co-hort. Anyway good luck. I know what you mean abut taking the other subjects. Marie Acurso
