One project I like to do is with lines and popsicle sticks. First we talk
about all kinds of lines and I draw them on the board or have the kids come
up and draw the lines too . They can make up their own lines also. On a 12
X18 sheet of white paper show the kids ways to make outlines of a building
using the sticks. Start with the square and 4 popsicle sticks and then add 2
more to make the triangle at the top. I go on to show them a few variations
of other buildings including a barn. The kids then lay out their sticks on
their paper. #2 pick up 1 stick at a time and put "chicken pocks drops" of
Elmer's glue on the stick, then lay back in place. Do next stick, etc., #3
When the building form is glued down then they go back with their markers and
use lines to make bricks, siding, chimney, windows, etc., #4 Lastly we talk
about where the house is and what kind of background it should have? All of
the background is done in colored marker lines. First graders love this
project too! Good luck! Gail
