Yeah, what is it this year?

Date: Sat Nov 16 2002 - 17:01:16 PST

Interesting to read about the stress that everyone feels this year. What IS

Personally, it's been the best _teaching_ year I've ever had--the kids are
awesome, I have NO discipline problems at the HS level (middle school is
another story, and that's just a couple of kids) and they're amazing me with
their work.

But the PACE of things seems different this year, and this is an across the
board feeling among teachers at the school where I teach.

My schedule is positively nuts; if I were just teaching, it would be
wonderful, but since I'm at a small co-ed private school that's boarding and
day, I'm also an advisor to 6 students, the assistant drama person, a
service group coordinator working on the school's historical archives, head
of the fine arts department, and the school's webmaster (usually doing daily
updates). There are literally not enough hours in a day to do everything
that needs to be done, and on top of that the pay is so low that I'm
routinely having to take money out of savings just to pay bills....

Something is way wrong with this picture, but given the job market and the
fact that I can't/won't relocate, I'm not sure that I'd be able to find a
better situation anywhere else. Dunno. I've been at this school for 4
years now, but I'm starting to look, just to see if there IS something else
out there.....
