Frani and I went to see Frida last night. As she says, "another
artsie-fartsie movie". I think it was fantastic. The colorful sets,
costumes, and actors that pulled me right into the story. It opened
with a blue walled interior patio with animals running about. Every
story I've been telling my students, over the years, came to life.
Too bad it's rated R, so few of them will ever see it. The nudity,
sex and language was there, but it was a big part of the story.
Alfred Molina plays a very believable Diego. Yes he was a fat
lovable bastard. Selma Hayek or Molina or perhaps Julie Taymor
deserves an Oscar for this movie. Don't miss it. This movie is a
moving experience for those who admire Diego and Frida's art.
We went to the AmeriStar Casino to see the film and ate Arthur Bryant's
Bar-B-Q and even played the slots. Came out just a bit more than even.
Only about 30 people were at the 7 PM showing of Frida so I don't
expect a long run. Hurry out and see it while you can.
