I do a line lesson in Art 1 using the Chromatic scale and the combination of
straight lines, bent lines, wavy lines, interrupted lines and concentric
shapes. The students choose different line qualities and create a series of
lines that show a progression of lines in a single direction. Start with
yellow and place it in the center of interest. Have them mix the secondaries
and tertiaries to make a spectrum conforming to the chromatic scale,
Y-YO-O-RO-R-RV-V-BV-B-BG-G-YG-Y. It's hard edge painting and they like the
results. Very quick and easy and they mix all the colors to go with a color
wheel assignment.
