3rd grade & color - response - minimal art

Date: Thu Nov 29 2001 - 17:22:44 PST

Dear Ceskras:
An extension to your project could be teaching them minimal art. Look up
minimal art on the Grolier encyclopedia on the computer and expose them to
Tony Smith, Anthony Caro, Dan Flavin. Your Delaunay might go very well with
showing them Frank Stella's florescent paintings of geometric and circular
shapes. I introduced third grade to Minimal art by plopping a solid white box
on the floor and telling them that this box showed no emotion, wasn't meant
to be an animal or human form and showed no representation of being anything,
but what it is: a box. They loved it. We did Frank Stella Abtract art minimal
art studies and it was helpful. Many could not hold a ruler the right way!
