Nutcrackers

Hi all,
I am planning to do a lesson with my 3rd graders on designing their own
nutcrackers. There was a similar lesson in School Arts (Dec. "99). Does
anyone have any information on the history of the wooden nutcrackers as a
folk art or toy? Didn't they originate in Germany?

  Also, I am planning to do a lesson with fifth graders using figures in
action poses (sports, dance, etc.). Who are some artists other than Degas
and Matisse who used figures in action poses in their work?
