When you say candling , is that the same as a soak? I do a soak ( lowest temp for
a few hours) when I'm a little concerned there might be some moisture in some of
the pottery. I let my kids stuff ( pots about 6 inches tall dry for a little over
a week( we only have 6 week sections) and I rarely ( knock on wood) have an
explosion, been a loooong time since I had one. I agree with Woody about the air
pockets. Make sure they wedge the clay. Also if you have another firing going ,
put bone dry pottery on the lid of the kiln to dry throughly.
good Luck
