Re: awesome portraits /my plan

I have just completed a lesson on emotion with my art 4 students where
they had to create a self portrait using the crosshatching technique on
scratchboard. They were to identify only the highlighted areas in heavy
crosshatch and create various values to the "shadowed" areas which would be
left black.
I was thinking about Brenda's paper portraits to exemplify an intense
study of color (maybe using color-aide paper)- of high to low contrast
studies- once again with the "Emotion" theme. I would have them draw out the
portrait first and contour out the various values as they are perceived.
These sections could then be "transfered" to respective colored paper,
cut-out and reconstructed to form their own self portrait. The students
could then explain their color combination technically and write a reflection
of how those colors impacted the emotional aspect of their portrait. Just my
first thought...still thinking...
