Deb-
I'm so sorry to here this news. It only hits too close to home. We have had
4 students die in the last 4 years and I have nothing to offer you- in terms
of advise. I too break down and cry- (I try not too but I can't help but
think of how young they are). I have in the past have had kleenex handy and
have just let the class determine the days direction. 3 of the children I
new well and was very disturbed- the children helped me bare the news and
behaved well while I tried to pull it together. I did encourage
brainstorming of ideas in their sketchbooks reflecting a strong emotion that
they were feeling. These sketches then served as a starting point for future
compositions. Some students did nothing with them and others incorporated
these ideas within curriculum projects.
No one ever prepared me for loosing my students. This is the most horrible
part of teaching. My prayers are with you. Be strong tomarrow.
