Deb,
I am so sorry. Over the years, we've lost too many youngsters, and it is
just the most difficult thing. You might ask the students what sort of
remembrance they'd like to
create.
We recently made a banner to present to a family. The students made a
small garden in the courtyard for another classmate. They may want to
collect money for a charitable gift in her name, or spend it on something
for the school--a bench in the lobby with her name. books for the library.
Some of them will need to talk, to cry. Some will need time to internalize.
I hope your district has a crisis team to send to school. Be aware of kids
who think they don't need any help. Have a favorite teacher or counselor
pull them aside.
My heart goes out to you and your students
  Judy
