A couple of years ago my students made hundreds of ceramic butterflies that
were used to decorate a Christmas tree for a fund-raiser. This tree was
auctioned off and the proceeds went the Children's Hospital in Boston. I
wanted to participate in this great cause, yet was careful to have my
students make "non-sectarian" objects, so as not to infringe on anyone's
religious beliefs. The slab constructed butterflies were beautiful and
elegant (and easy to make) as tree ornaments.
