We are a rural school so things aren;t quite as strict as city schools.
Today I
observed as the kinder, lst and 2nd grades practiced for their school music
= many religious songs were sung, some spirituals (we're sadly 99% light
skinned) some with references to
driedls (sp) and Hannukah. A nice mix of December Holiday Cheer. I have
wondered how they got away with religious references but no one says anything.
Last year I did a beautiful rondele based on Reubens Mother and Child. that
is what I called it - no religious reference. The Christmas Tree I should
probably have called
the "tree spirit" or something. Ah well - when they carry me off in chains
for teaching art that the kids enjoy I will ask for legal advice from the
artednet and will probably
get alot of good advice. Any art lawyers out there??? LOL Roberta
