teaching performance art

I am curious if anyone has attempted to teach performance art in the
classroom, and if so, how you went about it. A recent teacher workshop at my
museum discussed performance art, but the question remained of how do you go
about presenting this concept to students. Has anyone had an experience with
this topic?
