The National Endowment for the Arts in pleased to share information with you
on a new grant opportunity called Creative Communities. We want to call
your attention to the fact that the deadline for applying to this program is
December 15, 2000. Please help us get the word out to constituents or
colleagues who you think meet the eligibility criteria outlined in the

Creative Communities is the inaugural Challenge America Leadership
Initiative, and represents a partnership of the National Endowment for the
Arts, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the National
Guild of Community Schools of the Arts. Creative Communities will foster
the development of arts instruction by community schools of the arts during
non-school hours in public housing communities.

The Creative Communities Initiative will fund free sequential arts
instruction that is provided by professional artist-teachers on at least a
weekly basis to children and youth who reside in public housing. Twenty
projects from 20 different states will be funded for a three-year pilot
project period.

Since the timeframe for this program requires a fast turn-around for
applicants, we appreciate your help in getting the word out about this
