I want to thank Woody Duncan for posting such a cool lesson plan on his =
website: http://www.taospaint.com/Tessellation.html

My 8th-12th grade students are making tessellations based on this =
general idea, and they're having a blast--take a look! =
http://www.bigfoot.com/~artrageous/Tessellations.html

My kids had just finished a pretty intense time of working on =
self-portraits, and this project was a perfect way to wind down our =
first trimester. It's even managed to capture the interest of some =
hard-to-motivate students! =20

The subject matter has ranged all over the place, and I've let them do =
cartoon figures, their names, or geometric designs--and finish them as =
hexagons or other symmetrical shapes.

When we start into sculpture next trimester, tessellations may be one of =
the things that kids work on (in addition to the ongoing patterned ink =
drawings) while they're waiting for their main project to dry or =
whatever.

Anyhow, check out Woody's page for the how-to's--he's got some other =
neat plans posted, too!
