Hi all ,
I wanted to share with you all a project we just finished that has been
a blast and is earning some funds for the art dept and student.
For our unit on portraiture, the students (7th gr) did colored pencil
drawings of our faculty, admins , cook, custodian, etc. They gridded
them and used a variety of colored pencil techniques with a focus on
analogous colors for the background. We also looked at portraits by
Rembrandt and Van Gogh to tie in some famous artists.
Anyhow, the staff response to the display of the portraits ( just up in
time for conferences) has been fabulous. They are getting such a kick
out of not only their portraits but everyone's.
The students are selling the portraits and getting 60% of the profit.
The rest will go the the art dept. in which some sort of treat will be
purchased to celebrate our time in art . This way even the kids that do
not sell a portrait will get something out of this sale.
So far the response for purchasing is off to a great start!
I think next I might have them choose one of the presidents of the US to
do. Gee, should I have them do both Gore and Bush for the 43rd?
