Larry: Thanks for the thoughtful insight on students who are afraid to create
and on the teacher demonstrating artmaking in class. I realize that I need to
do more of that and how it's OK to make mistakes. When I've demonstrated and
made a mistake, the class laughs and it gives me an opportunity to crack a
joke or improvise or tell the class about "Happy Accidents" á la Bob Ross.
Sometimes students feign helplessness or the inablility to create because
they want you to help them individually and "do it for them". Viva the class
demo! It's a great teaching strategy for us that we sometimes forget. I'll
check out wetcanvas.com and be on the lookout for self-portrait demo.
