I liked the idea of playing books on tape while the kids were working that
someone suggested about a month ago, and tried it with some third graders.
They liked it so much, they ask for the stories when they come to class. I
play them after instruction time, while they are working. I only play them if
there's no talking, so peer pressure kicks in for those kids who get noisy. I
give them one warning, then turn the tape off for the rest of the class. You
have to be consistant and firm. Some classes get it quicker than others. Janet
