Our 2-week, 4 hour per day course called "Sacred Circles" is up and =
running, and the kids are really enjoying it! For those of you who =
missed all my posts a month or so ago when I was trying to plan this, =
it's a course in which students are exploring the symbolism and =
significance of circular artwork in various cultures and religions, in =
addition to creating their own artwork.
We've just finished our study of Tibet and Tibetan mandalas, and it just =
so happened that Tibetan monks were creating a mandala this week at our =
local art museum!! =20
I didn't even learn about this until Saturday (and the course started on =
Monday)! We quickly arranged a field trip that we went on yesterday, =
and I was able to take some gorgeous pictures--the colors of _all_ of it =
were really beautiful!
I've got some kids (at the boarding/day school where I teach) who are =
begging me to take them to the closing ceremony on Sunday, during which =
the mandala will be "dispersed." I'll have to see about this, because I =
imagine it will attract a very big crowd....
There's info on the projects we're doing (many more are in the works) as =
well as pictures of the mandala making and other pics and links to "The =
Mystical Arts of Tibet" website. The site is WELL worth exploring--wish =
I'd known about it when planning this unit!!=20
As time permits, I'll include more of what we're doing, write up a =
better description of the course (such as about specific assignments, =
lectures, etc.) and post more student artwork.=20
"The Mystical Arts of Tibet" tour schedule is on their main website, by =
the way, and if you see that it'll be in your area, please check it out!
